Mumbai: During an alleged altercation in the police truck transferring him from Taloja jail to Badlapur, on Monday evening, police shot and killed Akshay Shinde, who was charged with sexually abusing two girls at a school in Badlapur, Thane, last month.
Authorities claim that before the police shot back at him in self-defense, killing him, Shinde grabbed a pistol from one of the officers riding with him in the car. There have reportedly been three injuries to police officers in the event.
Shinde was escorted by Police Inspector Sanjay Shinde and Assistant Police Inspector Nilesh More. According to police sources, Sanjay Shinde formerly collaborated with “encounter specialist” and retired cop Pradeep Sharma at the Thane Police’s Crime Branch’s Anti-Extortion Cell.
Along with other members of the special squad led by Sharma, he was involved in the arrest of Iqbal Kaskar, the brother of mobster Dawood Ibrahim. He was added to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) that the state government established to look into the Badlapur rape case because of his experience and proficiency handling high-priority cases.
The accused was being transferred from Taloja jail, where he was being kept, to Badlapur for investigations on Monday. The Thane crime branch had taken custody of him in a charge of unnatural sex filed by his second wife. By the time the car got to the Mumbra bypass, which links Thane and Navi Mumbai, it was 5:30 p.m., according to reports.
According to law enforcement officials, Shinde took a pistol from the cop seated next him and discharged it three times. More was struck in the leg by the first bullet, and two other police officers were slightly hurt by the other shots that were fired randomly. Police Inspector Sanjay Shinde shot the accused in retaliation, hitting him squarely in the forehead.
Badlapur:
According to reports, Shinde’s head was shot, causing him to collapse in a pool of blood. The accused and More were brought to the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital in Kalwa by the police squad for medical attention. After suffering serious injuries, More was eventually brought to Jupiter Hospital in Thane. At the hospital, Shinde was pronounced deceased.
During the encounter, Shinde shot from the stolen pistol, injuring the police officers. Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis told the media that the police fired at the accused in self-defense.
August 20 saw widespread protests in Badlapur, with hundreds of people rioting in the streets and causing disruptions to train services, following the assault on the two youngsters, which is believed to have occurred in the school’s restroom on August 12 and 13, and the police’s delay in submitting a formal complaint. In an effort to move the case along quickly, the state administration formed a Special Investigative Team. At the school in August, Shinde, 24, was employed as a cleaner.
One of the kids was subjected to a protracted sexual assault between August 5 and August 12, leaving her with severe damage to her private areas, according to the two chargesheets the police filed on September 16 and 19. The chargesheet indicated that sexual assault and harassment were also experienced by the second child, who was a kindergarten student.
Shinde is accused in the First Information Report (FIR) of violating Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 65 (2) (rape on female under 12 years of age), 74 (assault or use of criminal force against a woman), 75 (sexual harrassment), and 76 (assault or use of criminal force against a woman with intent to disrobe or compel her to be naked).
Apart from that, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act’s provisions 4 (2) (penetrative sexual assault), 8 (sexual assault), and 10 (aggravated sexual assault) are included in the FIR.
section 377 (unnatural sex) of the Indian Penal Code, according to a new police report (FIR) that was filed against him at the Boisar police station by his second wife, a 23-year-old. For further investigation, the matter was first given to the police in Badlapur (East) and thereafter to the Thane Crime Branch.
The woman went to the police station with a social worker to report her ex-husband to the police for having inappropriate sex with her. The Boisar Police Station’s Senior Inspector, Shirish Pawar, stated, “We filed a case after receiving the complaint.”
The accused was placed under arrest for an unnatural sex case investigation by the Thane Crime Branch police’s Central Unit when they were being investigated in Taloja jail. The accused allegedly compelled the wife to have “unnatural sex” with him, leading the woman to divorce him four years after they were married, according to the police.
Authorities from the criminal and detention branches, as well as two police cars, were present throughout the transit remand, according to police sources. The police sources stated that each member of the escort police unit was a trained cop.
