Authorities claim that before the police shot back at him in self-defense, killing him, Shinde grabbed a pistol from one of the officers riding with him in the car. There have reportedly been three injuries to police officers in the event.

Shinde was escorted by Police Inspector Sanjay Shinde and Assistant Police Inspector Nilesh More. According to police sources, Sanjay Shinde formerly collaborated with “encounter specialist” and retired cop Pradeep Sharma at the Thane Police’s Crime Branch’s Anti-Extortion Cell.

Along with other members of the special squad led by Sharma, he was involved in the arrest of Iqbal Kaskar, the brother of mobster Dawood Ibrahim.
