Bhubaneshwar (Odisha): After senior state leaders Dharmendra Pradhan and Jual Oram were dragged into the Union administration, the BJP chose a relatively unknown figure as the new Chief Minister of Odisha: four-time MLA and the party’s tribal face, Mohan Charan Manjhi. Additionally, the party has selected KV Singh Deo and Pravati Parida as Mr. Manjhi’s deputies.

The BJP legislature party conference on Tuesday determined that Mohan Charan Majhi would take over as Odisha’s new chief minister. At the swearing-in event on June 12, which Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also be attending, he will take the oath of office as the saffron party’s first leader for the state’s top position.

Odisha’s First BJP Chief Minister, Mohan Majhi: Following discussions with the top leaders and the recently elected MPs and MLAs, his name was brought forward by Union ministers Rajnath Singh and Bhupendra Yadav, who were in attendance as observers at the BJP legislature party meeting. Singh hailed Majhi and referred to him as a “young and dynamic karyakarta” following the news.

“We are happy to announce that the leader of the Odisha BJP Legislature Party, Shri Mohan Charan Manjhi, has been elected unanimously.” In his role as the next Chief Minister of Odisha, he is a youthful, vibrant party politician who would lead the state towards prosperity. Many thanks to him,” he wrote in an X post.

He went on, “It has also been determined that the new state government will be led by two Deputy Chief Ministers. The state will be served by Smt. Pravati Parida and Shri KV Singh Deo as deputy chief ministers. They deserve congratulations!

A week after the results of the assembly poll were announced, the meeting to choose Majhi took place. With 78 seats, the BJP was able to form a majority in the 147-member House.

Odisha will be led by Majhi following Naveen Patnaik of the BJD’s 24-year reign. Following Sambalpur MP Dharmendra Pradhan’s appointment as a minister in the third Union Cabinet headed by Narendra Modi, a number of candidates were considered for the position of chief minister. However, the BJP leadership pulled off a last-minute surprise, as is customary.

As the chief alternate governor of Jammu and Kashmir and the former principal secretary to Gujarat chief minister Girish Murmu, the CAG of India, Manmohan Samal, the state president of the Bharatiya Janata Party, and Suresh Pujari, the elected assembly member from Brajarajnagar, were the leading contenders.

Senior party leader: “Everything is possible in Odisha because the BJP is a worker-driven party.”

According to party insiders, Majhi would take his oath on Wednesday after paying a visit to Puri’s Shree Jagannath Temple. According to them, Modi is scheduled to land in Bhubaneswar at 2:30 pm on June 12 and head from the airport to Raj Bhavan.

Strict security protocols have been implemented at the suggested location for the induction ceremony. The new chief minister of Odisha and other officials are set to take an oath of office in front of a number of dignitaries, including union ministers and chief ministers of states ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party.
