Guwahati: According to an official bulletin on Sunday, floods in Assam situation remained dire, with three additional deaths reported and new areas submerged, despite a slight decline in the number of affected people.
It stated that as impacted people sought refuge in rescue shelters spread over several locations, rivers continued to run wild.

5,35,246 people in 13 districts were still affected by the flood, according to a bulletin from the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).

On Saturday, 6,01,642 individuals in 10 districts were impacted.

There are now 18 confirmed deaths from floods and storms since May 28, including two in Cachar and one in Nagaon.

According to the ASDMA briefing, the three main rivers, Kopili, Barak, and Kushiyara, are still flowing over the danger threshold.

With 3,03,567 people still impacted, Nagaon was the worst-hit district. Cachar came in second with 1,09,798 and Hojai third with 86,382.

Over 39,000 displaced individuals were housed in 193 relief camps located in several areas. There were 82 more relief distribution centers in operation.

Numerous organizations, including the NDRF, SDRF, and local governments, were conducting rescue and relief activities. Medical teams had also been sent to the impacted areas.

Six people died and over 3.5 lakh people were still affected by floods in 11 districts of Assam on Friday, officials said. In the wake of Cyclone Remal, there were constant rains, which caused communication problems on the roads and by train.

The number of deaths caused by floods, rain, and storms in the state since May 28 has reached 12, with three occurring in Cachar, two in Hailakandi, and one in Karbi Anglong.

The Barak Valley area of Assam was visited by a well-equipped National Disaster Response Force team on Saturday, and the officials announced that they will remain there till the situation returns to normal.

The search will, however, end if the bodies are not located by Monday at 4 p.m., according to state government officials. Officials report that as of Saturday, a total of 28 deceased bodies had been found.
